Symptoms
Dry eye is an irritating condition in which an individual experiences chronic dryness, burning, and scratching in their eyes. Another symptom of dry eye is excessive eye watering. Excessive watering is the eye’s way of overcompensating for dryness. Dry eye is caused by a lack of moisture on the eye’s surface. Someone whose eyes do not produce enough tears is likely to develop dry eye.
Treatment
Treatment of dry eye often includes dry eye drops, which are prescribed by the doctor. These drops are artificial tears that act as a lubricant for the eye. Often times, contact wearers will complain of having dry eyes. Luckily, there are special contacts for dry eyes that help relieve dryness. Also, there are special eye drops for contact lens users, as well as contact cleaning products that will help lenses retain moisture.
